AAC heat-wave Tool updated – New Dashboard and Enhanced Functionality

Understanding summer thermal performance has become even easier.

EAACA has further developed its AAC heat-wave Tool for Wall Constructions, introducing a new dashboard and additional features to make the dynamic thermal behaviour of wall constructions easier to analyse, understand and compare.

With hotter summers and increasing concerns about overheating, the interaction between thermal insulation, heat storage and the delay of external heat waves is becoming increasingly important. The updated tool helps users assess these effects in a transparent and practical way.

A clearer view of summer thermal performance

The new dashboard brings the most important calculation results together, making it easier to interpret how a wall responds to a daily external temperature wave.

Users can assess:

  • Heat-wave delay: How many hours does it take for the temperature wave to affect the room side?
  • Heat-wave damping: How strongly is the external temperature wave reduced?
  • Heat transmission: How effectively does the construction limit periodic heat transfer?
  • Heat storage: How much heat can the wall temporarily absorb and release?
  • Construction comparison: How do different wall systems perform under the same calculation conditions?

All dynamic thermal calculations are based on EN ISO 13786.

More flexibility, more possibilities

Alongside the new dashboard, the tool offers a range of practical functions:

  • Editable material database with thermal properties
  • Predefined example constructions for a quick start
  • Flexible modelling of monolithic and multilayer wall systems
  • Simplified calculation of inhomogeneous constructions, including timber-frame walls
  • Direct comparison of alternative wall build-ups
  • Local storage of user-defined constructions and materials
  • JSON import and export for backup and data exchange
  • German and English user interfaces

These features make it possible to investigate how wall thickness, material density, insulation position and thermal mass influence summer thermal behaviour.

From individual parameters to better construction decisions

The tool demonstrates why the U-value alone cannot describe the dynamic summer behaviour of a wall. Effective heat storage, damping and time delay must also be considered.

AAC heat-wave provides a practical basis for early design comparisons and technical discussions. It does not replace detailed building simulation or a complete assessment of indoor overheating.
