In the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2011, EAACA invited European policymakers and stakeholders to a cocktail debate on “Nearly Zero Energy Buildings for Nearly All Climates” on 13 April 2011 in Brussels.

In the “Residence Palace” Art nouveau building, about 90 participants were presented with examples of very low energy buildings from across Europe, built with autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC).

Jos Cox, the Chairman of EAACA, demonstrated how optimised building structures such as AAC constructions are instrumental to meet the EU’s ambitious energy standards laid down in new legislation on the Energy Performance of Buildings, and policy goals set in the Energy 2020 strategy and the new EU Energy Efficiency Plan.

Tapani Mikkeli, Deputy Head of Unit for Construction at the European Commission’s DG Enterprise & Industry, explained how EU legislation can positively impact on the sustainable competitiveness of the construction industry, Commission’s forthcoming initiative on this issue.

EAACA is a Campaign Associate to “Sustainable Energy Europe”.
