Renewed EU Indstrial Strategy - EAACA signs Joint Paper

EAACA signs Joint Paper “For an ambitious EU industrial strategy: going further”: In September 2017, the European Commission outlined its ambition for a renewed EU Industrial Strategy in its Communication on “Investing in a smart, innovative and sustainable Industry”.

EAACA and its members firmly believe that the manufacturing sector forms an integral part of the European economy faced with its own unique challenges and opportunities. In order to overcome these and realise the full potential of the sector, it requires a dedicated long-term strategy. We therefore welcome the Communication as a first step towards this goal that should be followed by more concrete ones.

EAACA, together with over 100 other leading European industry associations (#Industry4Europe), signed a Joint Paper “For an ambitious EU industrial strategy: going further”. You can download it on our website. The Paper identified all objectives and measures that should be at the heart of any ambitious and longer-term EU industrial strategy, but are currently missing from the Communication. In particular the Single Market has to be developed further in order to ensure a level-playing field with non-European companies concerning the safety of products entering from abroad. EU law and the transposition of Directives needs to be better enforced in order to avoid market fragmentation. Of particular relevance to the construction sector, harmonised standards must be published in the Official Journal of the European Union without unnecessary delay.

The European industrial associations are ready to step up their cooperation with the European institutions to discuss and implement an European industrial strategy that will deliver meaningful results, help boost the competitiveness of European manufacturers and safeguard jobs in Europe.
